Join me in the woods near to @penhurstretreatcentre to ponder and pray through some of the words of Thérèse of Lisieux, known as the little flower.

She saw the beauty of the ordinary flowers – the daisies and lilies as much as the roses. After all, what would be the glories of springtime if we only had roses? So too, how lovely is the garden of souls, made in the image of God with so much creativity and diversity.

What a privilege to be at @premierradio today, encouraging the fabulous team of radio producers and presenters, led by @charmainenm and Maria Rodrigues, in two of the 7 Ways to Pray from my book of that name. Amazing the creativity they shared from praying with the Bible - I loved it! I love how prayer is foundational for who they are and what they do. Amazing to think of their work beaming into so many homes, bringing God's encouragement, joy, and inspiration.

The lovely Max also interviewed me on Transforming Love, my book about friendship with Jesus which has been out a year now! I'll let you know when it drops - he asked some really insightful questions.

And then I met with one of my directees from within one of the soundproof studios (via zoom). I didn't have to worry about confidentiality!

"More things are wrought through prayer than the world could dream of..." (Lord Tennyson). So very, very true. May it be so.

Another batch of photos from @penhurstretreatcentre Penhurst Retreat Centre. My beauty coffers are full!

It’s so hard to get good photos of the bluebell wood. I didn’t have a big camera with me - just my phone - so did my best. Check out all the pollen from traipsing through the garlic! Love these geese, who live at Penhurst. They adore when Viv, the cook, gives them scraps.

I have far too many photos to share from last week

I have far too many photos to share from last week’s retreat at @penhurstretreatcentre, so I will try to edit myself and share some highlights. Penhurst is small and intimate by nature, compared with other retreat centres, so we end the week feeling a bit like a family.

A real highlight was leading the morning and evening prayer in the style of the Northumbria Community, as I have enjoyed for years and years at El Palmeral. I thought this week I’d follow in their example, complete with prayer pot as we do in Spain - but tweaked, as I invited each of the guests to put 5-8 names in the pot. Each time of intercession we’d select 3 names, asking God to guide in which names came out that we’d pray for. We were stunned when one person came out six times! And two others came out twice. It felt like an amazing outpouring of love from God. (You can buy little booklets with the liturgy from the Northumbria Community website, which is what I did - not too big of an investment, along with the music that you can download via iTunes.)

I hadn’t been to Penhurst in the spring before, and revelled in the beauty of the flowers bursting out all around. Walking in the wooded area with the wild garlic and bluebells stunned me too - videos to come.

I’ll be returning for a weekend retreat in Penhurst in November next year - seems a long ways away, but if you want to enjoy fireside chats and the beauty of autumn, mark your calendar for the 14th through 16th 2025.
