Another batch of photos from @penhurstretreatcentre Penhurst Retreat Centre. My beauty coffers are full!

It’s so hard to get good photos of the bluebell wood. I didn’t have a big camera with me - just my phone - so did my best. Check out all the pollen from traipsing through the garlic! Love these geese, who live at Penhurst. They adore when Viv, the cook, gives them scraps.

I have far too many photos to share from last week

I have far too many photos to share from last week’s retreat at @penhurstretreatcentre, so I will try to edit myself and share some highlights. Penhurst is small and intimate by nature, compared with other retreat centres, so we end the week feeling a bit like a family.

A real highlight was leading the morning and evening prayer in the style of the Northumbria Community, as I have enjoyed for years and years at El Palmeral. I thought this week I’d follow in their example, complete with prayer pot as we do in Spain - but tweaked, as I invited each of the guests to put 5-8 names in the pot. Each time of intercession we’d select 3 names, asking God to guide in which names came out that we’d pray for. We were stunned when one person came out six times! And two others came out twice. It felt like an amazing outpouring of love from God. (You can buy little booklets with the liturgy from the Northumbria Community website, which is what I did - not too big of an investment, along with the music that you can download via iTunes.)

I hadn’t been to Penhurst in the spring before, and revelled in the beauty of the flowers bursting out all around. Walking in the wooded area with the wild garlic and bluebells stunned me too - videos to come.

I’ll be returning for a weekend retreat in Penhurst in November next year - seems a long ways away, but if you want to enjoy fireside chats and the beauty of autumn, mark your calendar for the 14th through 16th 2025.
