Still glowing after our wonderful NYC trip! My dau

Still glowing after our wonderful NYC trip! My daughter wanted it to be Broadway focused, and it sure was - it was a good experience for her of balancing budget items to embrace what she really wanted (which was experiencing these plays, sometimes with us sitting in the last row - but we were in the room!).

The stage door is something I wasn’t aware was such a big thing on Broadway; my daughter assures me that it’s not as much of a custom to flock the actors when they come out asking for signatures in London. Perhaps that playbills are given to the patrons in the States (versus at the West End where you have to pay a good chunk of change for a more substantial offering) adds to this custom?

My daughter thought that we’d get to meet the main stars for Romeo + Juliet as it was a fairly new production and not running for a long time. We managed to secure front row spaces outside the stage door! Meaning it was chaos and the screaming teens behind us were not fun. I gave my signed playbill to one of my daughter’s friends as it’ll mean more to her than to me (but I did get the insert signed, as above).

Perhaps because I’m not a starstruck teen, when coming in contact with these actors I try to say something that’s true and affirming. For Rachel Zegler I said, “I loved you on the Graham Norton show,” to which she raised her eyes and looked at me with surprise, I think a smile beneath the mask. To the actor who played Hades in Hadestown who was the understudy, I said, “You weren’t second best,” to which he said, “That’s the nicest thing anyone has said to me recently.” I don’t share this to puff myself up, but rather to encourage us to think how we can all bring light and life to others...

Currently in the stupendous Big Apple with my daughter (huge thanks to the generous person making this possible) and we’re having a ball. More photos to come, but I give you here the Strand Bookstore, 18 miles of books and family owned since 1927.

A trip to the States with my daughter - a coming o

A trip to the States with my daughter - a coming of age experience for her - with a too-quick stop in Minnesota before amazing days in the Big Apple.

It’s been punctuated by visits to diners, from Mickey’s with my parents after they picked us up from the airport (best veggie omelette EVER) to an amazing breakfast burrito at the diner across from our hotel in Midtown to sampling the world-famous Junior’s cheesecake and enjoying dinner at the diner right by Grand Central Station.

I invite you to exhale as you take in the beauty of my dad's painting, one that was a candidate for "The Trees Clap their Hands" chapter in Holding onto Hope, our book that I'd of course love for you to have! I adore this painting, even if it didn't make it into the book. I don't get to see the vibrant Fall colors every year of the upper Midwest in the States, but this beauty takes me right back in my imagination.

How is God inviting you to rest and relax into his love even if you have to release something as it comes to the end of its life (a project, a dream, a relationship)?
