Watercolor Wednesday: A word fitly spoken…
Recently at the Our Daily Bread writers’ and editors’ conference, I got to lead the prayer sessions. For one of them, while praying we asked God for our words to be “apples of gold in settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11, ESV). My dad kindly painted these golden apples for us to ponder. What does this image speak to you?
More broadly, what does it mean for your words to be like apples of gold in settings of silver?
Hi Amy, I’m a fellow American also married to an Englishman and living in the UK (nearly 10 years)! I’ve enjoyed your ODB devotions for years and my dad still likes to send me a hard copy ODB booklet from the US. It would be lovely to connect with you in person sometime as I’m sure there would be lots of stories to share. To answer your question on letting our words be like apples of gold in settings of silver, I think it means to share of God’s salvation and truth in a loving way that points people around us to Jesus. Thanks for the reminder to be using our words wisely and to be seeking God’s heart first! Best wishes, Joy
Joy, how lovely to meet you here! You can also get a hardcopy of the ODB booklet from the UK, if your dad wants to save on postage. If you search their website, you should be able to find the link. If you’re on FB do send me a friend request. I have a tiny Americans in the UK group that isn’t very active, but lovely nonetheless. Have you seen my book Finding Myself in Britain? You’re no doubt an old hand having been here a decade but you might enjoy it. Blessings!
Thanks Amy! I’ll have a look on the ODB website, although I think my dad enjoys an excuse to send us post! Yes, I’m on FB so will look you up. It’s always nice to know there are some fellow Americans scattered about the UK. I actually bought your book a couple years ago and have read two-thirds of it! I tend to read and come back to books especially being in the season of raising young children. I relate to a lot of your book and really appreciate your writing! Best wishes, Joy
